(GOAL Project) Gaining Opportunities to Address Legacies

The GOAL project will provide opportunities for reconciliation within and between communities by focusing on building positive and lasting relationship by:

  • Building partnerships between the local communities, Derry City Council, the Public Sector and Statutory Bodies.
  • Delivering workshops, courses, peace and reconciliation training, history, research, interview and drama presentations.
  • Providing opportunities for participants to access holistic techniques that assist in the process of psychological healing.
  • Providing opportunities for participants to overcome personal issues such as trauma, suffering, loss, hurt and isolation.
  • Organising joint ventures and joint discussions around experiences of suffering through the years of conflict.

The GOAL project will address the legacy of conflict by providing a platform for mutual learning and awareness by:

  • Working initially with the Creggan community in intergenerational and multigenerational projects and events about the past.
  • Developing partnerships with nationalist/republican/catholic and protestant/unionist/loyalist communities cross border and international partners.
  • Working with the young, elderly, victims of the troubles, and ex-prisoner groups.
  • Linking with other organisations to help address the issues of fear, hurt and suffering from the past.
  • Facilitating peace building through addressing issues of intolerance, prejudice, cultural and religious difference.
  • Raising awareness and acceptance of the rich cultural awareness that exists across the city, the island and beyond.
