GOAL Project – Black Hut Project
The first project of this Goal initiative was a walk to the the Black Hut at Killea by Creggan Residents on Sunday 9th August leaving from Sean Dolan’s car park. This was a cross border reminiscence project supported by people from the Creggan Estate and Donegal (Killea area).
Families from Creggan took part in this because of their strong history and life experiences during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. During this time many Protestants who lived in Creggan community left because of civil unrest & we believe these people who were friends and neighbours prior to the troubles will be merged in stories & reminiscence that this walk has evoked.
This will in turn lead to a programme of reconnection that will establish a group of people who will in turn be facilitated in a process of reminiscence & storytelling that will be recorded in book form which will be facilitated by a number of local community dramatists/writers.
The Project co-ordinator and Develpment worker have already been in contact with a number of residents and community groups in Creggan estate who are extremely interested in the project and committed to further developing this idea.

The GOAL project is in the process of publishing of a book of these stories celebrating the many rich and poignant memories of those times.
The GOAL project captured a large collection of images during the walk to the Black Hut which can be seen in the flash gallery at the top of the page. Many of these images, old and new were then presented in a photographic exhibit in the Ráth Mór Centre.
At the launch of the Black Hut reminiscence walk exhibition - organised by the Creggan Neighbourhood Partnership Goal project: Terry McCloskey (Co-ordinator - Goal Project), Joan Murray (Rath Mor 50+ Club), Conal McFeely (Board Member - Creggan Neighbourhood Partnership) and Jon McCourt (Development Worker - Goal Project).
